Phone Stand vs Wireless Charging Stand: How to Set Up a Phone Spot on Your Desk

Your phone is on your desk all day: for two-factor codes, messages, music, video calls and charging. Left flat on the desk it gets buried under papers, slides around, and pulls a charging cable across your keyboard. Two simple accessories fix that: a phone stand and a wireless charging stand. This guide explains what each one does, who should pick which, and how to set up a tidy phone spot at your desk.

Quick answer

  • You mostly want to see your phone (video calls, recipes, notifications, following along with a video)? Get a phone stand.
  • You want your phone, earbuds and watch to charge in one spot without plugging in three cables? Get a wireless charging stand.
  • You use a small tablet or a phone in a thick case? A phone stand is the more flexible choice.
  • You already have a big RGB desk setup? A mouse pad with a built-in wireless charging spot saves desk space.

What a phone stand does

A phone stand holds your phone upright at an angle you choose, so you can read the screen without picking it up. You keep using your normal charging cable if you want to charge at the same time.

Our 360° Metal Desk Phone Stand has a rotating base and an adjustable angle, a stable metal build, and holds phones and small tablets. It comes in Black, White or Silver and folds down when you are not using it.

Good for: hands-free video calls, following a recipe or tutorial, watching a video while you eat lunch at your desk, and keeping notifications in view while you work.

Keep in mind: a stand doesn't charge anything by itself. If you want the phone charging while it sits there, run your charging cable to the stand and park it with a cable clip.

What a wireless charging stand does

A wireless charging stand gives your phone a charging spot that you simply set the phone on. Multi-device stands also add docks for other gear, so one stand replaces a small pile of chargers.

Our 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand combines:

  • A wireless charging pad for phones that support wireless charging.
  • An earbud dock plus a rotating plug-in dock with swappable USB-C, Micro-USB and 8-pin tips, for devices that charge by plug.
  • A smartwatch arm that holds your watch's own charging puck. The puck plugs into the stand's USB port, and it isn't included, so use the one that came with your watch.

The stand is USB powered and measures about 23 x 9 x 13 cm, in Black or White.

Good for: people who end every day with a phone, earbuds and a watch that all need charging, and anyone who wants one charging spot on the desk or nightstand.

Keep in mind:

  • Check that your phone supports wireless charging. Most recent phones do, but some budget models don't.
  • Thick cases, wallet cases, metal plates and pop-out grips can stop wireless charging. If charging doesn't start, try without the case.
  • Wireless charging is convenient, not a speed upgrade. If you need a quick top-up before heading out, a cable is usually faster.
  • Because it charges your phone lying back on a pad, it's better for glancing at notifications than for long video calls.

Three simple phone setups

1. The video-call desk

Put a phone stand beside your monitor or laptop so your phone sits near eye level for quick calls, or for watching a meeting while your main screen shows your work. Pair it with a webcam and a desk lamp for laptop calls; our video call and streaming desk setup guide covers the rest.

2. The one-spot charging corner

Put the 3-in-1 wireless charging stand in a back corner of the desk, close to a USB port or a USB wall adapter. Phone, earbuds and watch all go there at the end of the day, and you're no longer hunting for three separate cables.

3. The RGB gaming desk

If your desk is already full, a large mouse pad with a charging spot built in saves space. Our RGB Wireless Charging Mouse Pad (300 x 800 mm) has a wireless charging area for compatible phones and RGB edge lighting, under your keyboard and mouse. Add a phone stand if you also want the phone upright for calls.

Keep the cables tidy

Whichever you choose, one cable goes from the stand to power. Park it with magnetic desktop cable clips so it doesn't slide off the back of the desk, and bundle the extra length with reusable cable ties. If you're short on USB ports for power, a 4-port USB hub adds more. Our desk cable management basics guide has a simple routine.

FAQ

Can I use a phone stand and a wireless charging stand together?

Yes. Many people keep the charging stand for end-of-day charging and a phone stand for calls and reading during the day.

Does the 3-in-1 stand charge my watch by itself?

No. The watch arm holds your watch's own charging puck, which plugs into the stand's USB port. The puck isn't included.

Will the phone stand hold a tablet?

It holds phones and small tablets. For a large tablet, a laptop stand is a better fit; see our laptop stand vs cooling pad guide.

Why isn't my phone charging on the wireless pad?
