Headset Stand vs Desk Hook: Where to Keep Your Headset

RGB gaming headset stand with 2 USB ports

A headset left on the desk takes up space, gets its cable tangled with your mouse cord, and is easy to knock onto the floor. Giving it a fixed spot solves all three. The two common options are a headset stand that sits on the desk and a desk hook that clamps to the edge. This guide compares them so you can pick the one that fits your desk, not the one with the flashiest photo.

Quick answer

  • Short on desktop space? Use a clamp-on hook. It hangs the headset off the side and uses no surface area.
  • Want the headset in easy view and a couple of extra USB ports? Use a desktop stand.
  • Own more than one headset, or also want somewhere to hang a bag? A hook on each side of the desk often works better than a single stand.

Option 1: a desktop headset stand

A stand holds the headset upright on the desk, so the ear cups keep their shape and the headband is not bent over an edge. It is the tidiest-looking option and the easiest to grab without looking.

Our RGB Gaming Headset Stand with 2 USB Ports adds two practical extras: two USB 2.0 ports (handy for a mouse dongle, a flash drive, or charging a small device) and a rear hook to wrap the headset cable. It connects to your computer with the included USB-C cable. The base lighting has six single colors plus a color-flow mode, set with a touch button, and you can leave it on a single color if you don't want a light show.

Things to check first:

  • You need a free spot roughly the size of a phone footprint near your keyboard or monitor.
  • The USB ports are USB 2.0 (up to 480 Mbps). That's fine for peripherals and small files, but not a replacement for a fast hub when copying large folders. If you need more ports or faster ones, see our USB-C hub vs USB 3.0 hub guide.
  • The stand needs one free USB port on your computer for its own cable.

Option 2: a clamp-on desk hook

A hook clamps to the edge of the desk and holds the headset below the work surface. Nothing sits on the desktop, so it suits small desks, dorm desks, and setups where the monitor and keyboard already fill the space.

We carry two styles:

  • Clip-On Headphone Stand: a black clamp-on holder made for headphones and headsets.
  • Punch-Free Desk Hook: clamps on without screws or drilling, comes in black or white, and also works for a small bag or other light items.

Things to check first:

  • Desk edge. Clamps need a flat, exposed edge. A thick tabletop, a rounded edge, or a frame bar right under the edge can get in the way, so take a quick look under your desk before ordering.
  • Leg room. Mount it on the side you don't sit on or toward the back corner so you don't bump it with your knees or chair arm.
  • Cable reach. A wired headset hanging below the desk needs enough cable to reach your computer's port without pulling tight.

Keep the cable tidy too

Whichever you choose, the headset cable is usually what makes the desk look messy. Run it along the back edge and hold it in place with a couple of Magnetic Desktop Cable Clips, so it stays parked along the edge instead of sliding behind the desk.
